Hulsey, George among filings challenged

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Challenges to nomination papers filed by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Brett Hulsey and 4th Congressional District candidate Gary George have been filed with the state elections board.

Challenges were filed by Thursday's deadline for 13 candidates seeking to get on the ballot in Wisconsin. The Government Accountability Board planned to discuss the challenges and certify candidates at its Tuesday meeting.

All of the challenges allege candidates failed to submit an adequate number of signatures for a variety of reasons. Other candidates challenged include Republican state Sen. Frank Lasee, Republican Rep. Kathy Bernier and Democratic Rep. Mandela Barnes.

The challenge against Hulsey was filed by Michael Basford, chairman of the Democratic Party of Dane County.

George is a convicted felon and former state senator. He wants to challenge U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore.
