RUBY, Wis--A 50 year old hunter is recovering after being shot in Chippewa County.
The incident happened around 8:30 this morning.
The DNR says a large group of hunters were participating in a ‘deer drive’, when a deer ran between two hunters.
A 14 year old in the hunting party shot at the deer but hit the 50 year old man in the upper chest.
The man was airlifted to a hospital and is expected to recover.
DNR spokesperson Ed Culhane says this incident illustrates the need to have a plan in place before starting a ‘deer drive.’
He says everyone in the party should be aware of where other hunters and the party should establish a shooting safe zone.
