MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) -- One of the Chippewa Valley's biggest employers plans to cut nearly 80 jobs.

The state Department of Workforce Development announced Hutchinson Technology's plan on Tuesday. In a letter to the state, the company says it plans to cut 78 positions at its Eau Claire plant starting around May 3, and running through June 30. It expects the cuts to be permanent. Most of the affected workers are process specialists.

The Department of Workforce Development says it will work with the West Central Workforce Development Board to help affected workers.
