NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (WEAU) -- A middle school that's had dozens of absences from reports of stomach flu hopes to find the source of the problem on Friday.
The superintendent of the School District of New Richmond posted a message to the district's website Thursday. It says the middle school appears to have fewer than 10 new cases of the illness. Superintendent Jeff Moberg says, on Wednesday, nearly 140 students were absent because of reported stomach flu. The total was nearly the same on Thursday. The middle school canceled student trips, but worked to re-organize event for students. The schools checked the air, the water, and food service. The superintendent says the root appears to be "some type of stomach virus." He's waiting for test results from the State of Wisconsin to be sure.
The message urges students who catch the sickness to stay home 48 hours after their symptoms are gone. To see the message from the superintendent, click on the link on the right side of this story.
