Inauguration held for new UWEC chancellor

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire's new chancellor has been on the job for more than four months, but Friday the school celebrated his inauguration day.

Hundreds of students, professors, and community members gathered at the Davies Center Friday afternoon for Dr. James Schmidt's inauguration.

Schmidt started at the University in July and had previously been in the administration at Winona State University.

He says UW-Eau Claire is an excellent institution that will continue to move forward.

"UW-Eau Claire has always been audacious with our call for excellence, lets not stop. Your audacious ideas, your ideas will help us to continue to drive."

The ceremony included remarks from UW-System President Kevin Reilly, more than 100 delegates including UW-Eau Claire faculty and performances by University music ensembles.
