Injuries sap Wisconsin offense in spring practice

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The offense that Wisconsin trotted out for Saturday's spring game will likely bear little resemblance to the unit that coach Gary Andersen will use this fall.

Injuries deprived the Badgers of manpower at receiver and center this spring. Star running back Melvin Gordon and backup Corey Clement sat out the tackling portion of Saturday's scrimmage.

Starting quarterback Joel Stave watched from the sideline. He is still bothered by a shoulder injury first sustained at the Capital One Bowl in January.

Stave had an up-and-down 2013 season, and Andersen has said he wants to see improvement from the passing game. Tanner McEvoy took first-string snaps in Stave's place. His strength is making plays with his legs.

It's no surprise that defense dominated in a spring game with just two field goals.
