EAU CLAIRE, Wis (WEAU) - As SportScene 13's Bob Gallaher first reported Tuesday night, Eau Claire native Jake Dowell signed a two-year contract with the Minnesota Wild. Dowell played in 52 games with the Dallas Stars last season. Before playing with the Stars, Dowell spent his first four years on his NHLcareer in the Chicago Blackhawks organization, playing in over 100 games, with nine goals and 17 assists during that span. A member of the 2006 Wisconsin Badgers hockey team that won the national championship, Jake who is getting married later this month told Bob Gallaher on the phone that it's a thrill to get a chance to continue his professional career so close to home.
Jake Dowell says, "It's definitely really exciting, it's cool to know that my family will be there, I'm sure my Mom won't miss a game. By coincidence,I bought a place in Minneapolis at the start of the summer because it's where I wanted to be, so it will be nice that I won't have to move and will be nice to stay at our house, that willl be cool. I think it will be a good fit, because they (Wild) haven't made the post-season in a couple of years, they will be hungry to get back in there. They are doing everything they can to put a team together that will be fun to be part of, can stay here and train here until training camp and then the wedding, not have the contract stuff hanging over my head worrying about it. I've been stressed out a little bit, it's been a stressful few days, nice to have it done."
