Janas sentenced to prison in animal mistreatment case

WAUSAU, Wis. (WEAU) -- A Wausau woman will spend more than two years in prison in an animal mistreatment case that sparked outrage across the country.

On Monday, a Marathon County judge handed down the sentence to Sean Janas, 21. She will also spend two years on extended supervision after the prison time, and can't own, train, or have a pet for five years. Janas entered a guilty plea to mistreating an animal resulting in death, and intentionally poisoning an animal.

Prosecutors say Janas poured bleach and Drano down the throat of her boyfriend's German Shepherd-Labrador mix in June 2012, and kept a diary about how she got pleasure doing it. Her attorney said his client couldn't control her actions when she was high. Janas told the court that she hopes to stop using drugs, and get her life back on track.
