Kids donate "love bears" to help kids in traumatic situation

(WEAU) - When kids here go through a trauma, they'll have something to hold onto. Elementary students gave teddy bears to police to help other children in need.

First graders at Meadowview Elementary in Eau Claire gave the bears to the ECPD. The students' families donated the bears, then the kids spent the month filling them up with love, by reading and singing to them.

Tuesday, they gave the bears to police so they can give them out to kids who are going through traumatic situations.

A teacher says it's a project the students love.1st grade teacher Kelly Staniszewski says "even more so than me, it makes the kids feel good. It's a project that's close to their hearts and they understand about how kids can feel sad and feel scared and it makes them feel good to do something to help."

This is the 12th year Meadowview has donated the bears.
