PRESS RELEASE from Restore La Crosse Committee:
The Restore La Crosse Committee filed a Statement of Intent To Circulate Recall Petitions against Common Council President Audrey Kader this afternoon at 1:00 PM. The group will have 60 days to turn in 158 signatures. Depending on conditions a special election will be held for the council seat in District 11 around February of 2013.
Reason given on Recall Petition:
Wheras in our opinion, City of La Crosse common council president, Audrey Kader, has failed in her responsibilities to provide acceptable leadership to the council and therefore failed to provide direction to the mayor and in fact has created a negative forum for active community participation and supported a divisive atmosphere in setting and achieving city policies goals and objectives. Therefore pursuant to state statutes, 9.10 we hereby petition for the recall of council president, Audrey Kader from her duties as council representative of city district #11
Statement From the group:
The Common council as presently comprised and under direct leadership of President Audrey Kader has repeatedly demonstrated by its collective actions a callous disregard for the interests of the people of this city by attempting to impose a clearly self serving re-direction of the style of governance that the people of La Crosse have enjoyed since the founding of their city.
First by attempting to diminish the office of a duly elected mayor, to be replaced by an un-elected administrator empowered at the whim of a council committee and being unresponsive and unaccountable to the people.
In addition working with apparent stealth and limited customary public discourse and input, the Council under Audery Kader did eliminate a long standing and time honored vehicle, the Committee of the Whole, which afforded the people their rightful opportunities to directly express themselves, unencumbered and without reserve, to their council members gathered en-masse by making it now, a grave inconvenience with unreasonable requirements to do so.
The people, now wishing to see a substantial change in the direction and leadership as promoted under Council President Audrey Kader, are petitioning for her recall, with the goal of returning to a council more respecting of their voices, and further, seek relief from the uncertainties, intrusions and burdens to their daily lives imposed by the present council and its unrelenting call for unnecessary changes uncalled for by public need or desire.
