La Crosse Co. administrative center thinking about moving

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area county administrative center could be moving into a bank building.

The La Crosse County Board is thinking about moving the county administrative center to the associated bank building downtown.

County administrator Steve O’Malley says if that happens, Associated Bank would move its branch to parking lot C.

Moving to the bank building would cost the county $19.4 million dollars. He says Associated Bank's current building is bigger than what the bank needs.

“This would allow them to downsize to a different facility, a brand new facility, and that we could utilize their building and the two parking lots that are adjacent, and remove some of the parking demand that we have on the vacant parking lot downtown,” said O’Malley.

This would allow Borton-360 to purchase the county administrative center building for $250,000, and convert it into student housing for Western Technical College.

The board will discuss the option of moving at its meeting on Thursday.
