LA CROSSE, Wis. (LA CROSSE POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) -- The La Crosse Police Department has recently been awarded a Department of Transportation (Highway Safety Project) grant to place additional patrols in the community to focus on Alcohol impaired driving. The goals for these grants are to reduce traffic related injuries and death; to gain compliance with existing laws and ordinances; and improve the safety and coexistence of all modes of transportation.
The La Crosse Police Department will be using high visibility OWI enforcement in which we will be putting out 2 Officers at a time during 4 hour deployments, between the hours of 6:00 PM and 4:30 AM. We will be doing about 4 to 5 deployments during each month for the next 12 months to help reduce alcohol impaired driving and improve on traffic safety in the City of La Crosse. The grant awarded to the La Crosse Police department was for $25,000.
The La Crosse Police Department will also be participating with other agencies across the state of Wisconsin in High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) saturation patrols during specific timeframes listed below. The saturation patrols will be in high risk locations within the City of La Crosse and State of Wisconsin.
• December 7th—16th , 2013(Booze and Belts)
• March 4th—20th, 2014 (St. Patrick’s Day)
• May 20th—June 2nd, 2014 (CIOT National Mobilization)
• July 1st – 17th, 2014 (Summer Heat)
• Aug. 16th – Spet. 2nd, 2014 (Alcohol Crackdown)
The enforcement emphasis of the officers for this enforcement will be on Alcohol Impaired Driving, speed, traffic light violations and seatbelt violations with Zero tolerance. The La Crosse Police Department is dedicated to the safety of the La Crosse Community and will continue to work on making our roadways as safe as possible.
