La Crosse business matching Salvation Army donations

NEWS RELEASE FROM SALVATION ARMY:

A La Crosse area business is matching all donations put into all red kettles in La Crosse and Onalaska where a bell ringer is posted. This includes some extended hours, one new location (Viterbo University, just prior to the La Crosse Symphony concert) and all donations made at the cash registers at Festival Foods.

If successful, this will be the largest single day at the kettles in La Crosse history. “We’re obviously very excited about this,” said Major Paul Moore. “Homelessness, hunger and under-employment are very real in La Crosse. When people come to us looking for help, we want to be able to answer that call. Match Day is a great opportunity
for people to maximize their gifts and help do the most good for the most people in the most need.”

The goal for the entire Christmas Red Kettle Campaign is $650,000, $18,000 more than last year. “The increased goal is a reflection of the increased need,” said Moore. “We are regularly housing 80 or more people in a building that was originally designed to hold
42.”

The bell ringing season runs from November 16- December 24. All bell ringing shifts on December 15th have been filled, though bell ringers are still needed for other shifts.

Volunteers can sign up by going to www.bells2ring.org. The entire Christmas Red Kettle Campaign runs through the end of January.
