LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A parade scheduled for Thursday evening in La Crosse will go on, despite the potential for inclement weather.
That's the word from the Secretary of the Oktoberfest Board of Directors Thursday morning. In a letter from Kevin Buelow, people participating in the Oktoberfest Torchlight Parade and attending it are advised to be ready for intermittent rain at the parade, which is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. It starts at Kane Street and Gillette Street in La Crosse, and ends at St. James Street and Caledonia Street.
The letter goes on to say that the post-parade party will go on regardless of the weather. It's at the Northside Oktoberfest grounds. The Northside Festplatz is open to those 21-and-over only starting at 4 p.m.
Letter from the Secretary of the Oktoberfest Board of Directors:
We recognize that the weather forecast may affect plans for tonight’s Oktoberfest Torchlight parade. As it stands the parade is on unless Oktoberfest leadership decides otherwise.
Choosing to cancel is typically a “game-time decision” in that we want to make every effort to conduct the parade. However, safety is always our first concern. In 2009 the parade was cancelled due to lightening and high winds. Conversely in 2011, the severe weather broke just 15 minutes before the parade was to start and we were treated to a beautiful fall sunset.
At this time we advise parade participants and attendees to prepare for intermittent rain for this evening.
Regardless of the weather, the popular post-parade party returns to the Northside Oktoberfest grounds. Beginning at 4 p.m. the Northside Festplatz will transition to 21-and-over only, with a current Oktoberfest button required for entry. Entertainment by the Far Outs will be provided from 8 p.m. to Midnight.
