La Crosse police warn of phone scam

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Officers want you to be aware of a phone scam.

On Monday, La Crosse police said they've received several reports of the scam happening in the community. Officers say people are receiving calls from someone claiming to be a representative from the Publisher's Clearing House. The person asks for bank account information so the recipient can claim prize money. The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department has received similar complaints.

The police department says it's a scam, and that you should never give away banking, personal, or other private information to a stranger on the phone.
