LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A new area elementary school that’s under construction has a name.

On Monday night the La Crosse Board of Education decided unanimously to name the building Northside Elementary.

During the fall, the district asked the community to submit name ideas for the new school.

The building will be on the site of the Northside Elementary School Franklin Campus, and costs $15.7 milion.

Superintendent Randy Nelson said construction is coming along on the new building.

“In terms of the whole work plan they really are right on time, and we’re also right within sight of our budget, so we feel we’re in a good place,” said Nelson.

Northside Elementary is expected to be completed by the start of next school year.
