UW-Eau Claire leaders broke ground Monday on a building designed to replace the aging Davies Center.
The nearly $50 million student center will have nearly 170,000 feet of space. The university says tax payers will not foot the bill for the facility, it will be funded through segregated fees paid by students. Students say the new student center is a long time coming.
UWEC Student Body President Dylan Jambruk said "To see it to finally come to fruition, the will and the paying of all those students across a decade and more, its really exciting to see we're finally getting something fresh and new on our campus.
Work began March 7 on the new university student center. The anticipated completion date for the project is summer 2012.
