Light rain in Duluth, but flooding repeat unlikely
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Duluth is getting more rain, but forecasters say it's not likely to cause major problems for the recently flooded city.
The National Weather Service in Duluth says about a quarter-inch of rain had fallen by noon Saturday. Isolated thunderstorms are possible, but meteorologist Dean Melde (MEL'-dee) says it doesn't look like anything as serious as the heavy rains that led to flash flooding and caused evacuations and infrastructure damage throughout the region earlier in the week.
Floodwaters continued to recede throughout northeastern Minnesota on Saturday as evacuees returned to homes and started cleaning up.
Melde says while most floodwaters are receding, the Mississippi River continues to rise thanks to massive flood runoff. He says that could cause spotty flooding outbreaks in some low-lying areas in the coming days.
