Red Cross hosts blood drive

Red Cross hosts blood drive

(WEAU) - People were marking national volunteer week by donating blood in Eau Claire.

The Red Cross says every year more than 4 million people donate about 6.5 million pints of blood to help save lives.

Two regular donors say Monday's tragedy in Boston played a role in them donating Tuesday.

Ariel Hardy, who was in town for business from Huntsville, Alabama said "I give blood pretty regularly so I came in today after the Boston tragedy yesterday. It was high time anyway."

Matthew Helminski from Cadott told us "I was a little overdue for my scheduled appointment so that kind of brought me attention...made me pay attention to see if I was eligible again."

There are many Red Cross blood drives coming up in Western Wisconsin.
