Local bunnies socialize ahead of Easter Sunday

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)- It’s almost time for peter cotton tail to come hopping down the bunny trail and just one week before Easter local rabbits were out strutting their stuff.

EmBARK Dog Day Care in Eau Claire held its hoppy time bunny playtime Sunday afternoon. Sixteen bunnies from around the area and their owners came out to socialize.

Ahead of Easter time rabbit owners and local animal shelters say you should think twice before giving a live bunny as a surprise in an Easter basket.

“We are finding after Easter it’s usually just a couple of months and suddenly the shelter is getting swamped with rabbits or people are letting them loose and it’s just not a good idea,” Sue Anderson said.

Humane Society volunteers say rather than getting a live rabbit consider an alternative like a chocolate bunny or a stuffed animal.

Anderson says rabbit owners hold the hoppy time bunny playtime every other Sunday from 3-4:30 at emBARK.
