MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) -- Several local businesses were recognized as sustainability leaders in Wisconsin.

Earlier this month, the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council recognized them as Green Masters. Among the 34 businesses that were honored are Phillips-Medisize of Eau Claire, the Wisconsin Industrial Sand Company of Menomonie, Gundersen Health System of La Crosse, Century Foods International of Sparta, and Organic Valley / CROPP Cooperative of La Farge

A total of 167 businesses now participate in the Green Masters program. Nearly half of them have less than 100 employees. The top 20 percent become Green Masters. Applicants are judged on sustainability issues like energy, water use, educational outreach, and governance.
