Local family gets to go to the White House Egg Roll

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) – A couple of lucky girls from Chippewa Falls get to join the President of the United States and more than 35,000 people for the 135th annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

The gathering is full of games, food and entertainment and of course the rolling of the Easter eggs and the Davis family get to take a crack at it.

“I just think it’s such a wonderful event. I know not a lot of kids get to go to the egg roll and for me it'll be a first and I’m probably more excited than they are,” said mom Jennifer Davis.

4-year-old Joselyn and 7-year-old Kaydence got the hard-to-get tickets to the egg roll through their uncle who works for the American Egg Board.

The girls said they’re looking forward to seeing the first family, eating chocolate bunnies and rolling eggs in a race.

Jennifer said the family is heading out on Saturday so there’s time to show the girls around Washington, DC on Sunday. The egg roll is on Monday, April 1st.

So while kids around the Chippewa Valley hunt for eggs in the snow, Joselyn and Kaydence get to go to the President’s house and hunt for eggs on the south lawn in the largest White House event each year.

“I'm excited for them to be there and be in our nation’s capital and experiencing this historic event,” said Jennifer.

There was word last week from the White House that the annual egg roll event could be cancelled due to the sequester, but since then, spokesperson Jay Carney said the event is planning to proceed.

But even if there was to be a cancellation, the Davis family has an “egg”-cellent attitude.

“We're still going we have tickets and it’s going to be a wonderful trip for our family regardless but I sure hope we get to go,” said Jennifer.
