EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) Dozens of people played a round of golf Monday morning to honor those who served our country.

It was the annual "Operation Honor and Remembrance" golf outing, being held at Hickory Hills Golf Course in Eau Claire.

The day kicked off with a "Purple Heart Putt Off" and then a shotgun start around 11:30.

A number of awards were given out throughout the day, as well as a special speech by a guest speaker, Tom Hanrath, a Marshfield native, who is a Navy Seal.

Benjamin Proctor, the Master of Ceremonies, says its all about helping the vets.

"We raise money and gifts and prizes and it doesn't cost the veteran anything, it doesn't cost them for food of golf or anything, and it's just kinda gotten bigger every year, although we do limit it to about 110 golfers," explains Proctor.

He says this is the 10th year the event has been put on, and hopes it continues for years to come.
