LA CROSSE, Wis (WEAU)--One local war hero is honored on the gridiron for his sacrifice and bravery.
We first met LT. Jason Church of Menomonie back in September....while he was recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Church a former UW -Lacrosse football player, lost both his legs while serving in Afghanistan after his army platoon struck an improvised explosive device.
Church received his purple heart at halftime at the UW-Lacrosse---UW-White Water game.
His father, Col. David Church, presented him with the award.
Church who has already had 21 surgeries...is still undergoing physical therapy and is being fit for prostatic legs.
Church says he's overwhelmed by the amount of support he is getting.
