EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The finish line is now in sight for a local man aiming to complete 11 marathons in 2011.

WEAU 13 News first told you about Ryan Burr back in May.

He’s been running marathons across the country all year to raise money for sick children.

WEAU caught up with the 34-year-old runner as he trained for his final marathon in Eau Claire’s Carson Park on Sunday.

Admiring the work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, earlier this year, Burr set out to raise $11,000 for the hospital by running 11 marathons in 2011.

“With one left, I can say the goal’s going to be accomplished,” Burr said.

With medals already won for races in Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C. and Eau Claire, Burr is now setting his sights on his 11th and final marathon, the St. Jude Memphis Marathon on Saturday.

Although Burr is $4,000 short of reaching his goal, the Lake Hallie man said he’s still thrilled with the amount of donations he’s received.

“I know that's not what our goal was but I'm not going to lose sight that $7,000 is an enormous amount of money all coming from donations,” Burr said.

The father of three said keeping focused has gotten him through some tough marathons.

“What I'm going through on a racecourse is nothing like what children are going through battling cancer or what they're parents are going through,” Burr said.

He’s been documenting his running adventures and accepting donations on his website, 11in11.org.
With his last marathon of the year on the horizon, Burr said he’s learned many important lessons through his journey.

“We tend to limit ourselves with our heads not with our bodies. I really thought the physical part of this would be the tough part and it hasn’t been; it's been the mental part. It's been a fulfilling year, I wouldn't change it. I would do it again tomorrow,” Burr said.
