The Los Angeles Kings beat the New York Rangers 3-2 in double overtime to win the Stanley Cup.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The exhaustion of Los Angeles Kings fans after two overtimes was quickly replaced by jubilation as the team took its second Stanley Cup in three years and the celebration began.

Huge whoops went up in downtown Los Angeles both inside and outside Staples Center on Friday night when the Kings scored to beat the New York Rangers 3-2 in double overtime. Fans in Kings jerseys in sports bars and watching big screens outside the arena hugged and high-fived each other when the winning goal went in.

They started streaming into closed streets patrolled by police on horseback.

Never the most popular team in a city not known as a hockey town, the Kings have now won two Stanley Cups since the Dodgers, Lakers, Clippers or Angels won their last championship.
