Man accused of driving drunk with his children in the car now charged

TOWN OF WHEATON, Wis. (WEAU) The man accused of driving drunk with his three kids in the car, crashing and injuring them is now charged.

Chad Kohel, 40, of River Falls faces three counts of OWI with a passenger under the age of 16 and one count of OWI causing injury.

A little more than two weeks ago, according to the criminal complaint, Kohel lost control and flipped his vehicle while traveling on Highway 29 near Chippewa Falls.

His three kids ages 12, 10, and 8 were all with him.

The youngest was thrown from the vehicle, and taken to the hospital.

Kohel later told police he had eight drinks that night.

If convicted, he could lose his license, face thousands of dollars in fines, and spend up to three and a half years in prison.
