Man accused of stealing car, crashing in Jefferson County

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- An Eau Claire man was arrested after police say he stole a car from Eau Claire Auto Group and crashed it in Jefferson County.

According to the police report, the manager of the dealership told police a 2006 Dodge Caravan was stolen sometime Monday night. The car was later spotted in Jefferson County when a deputy tried to pull over the driver.

The report says the driver gave false information and fled the scene.
A short chase ended with the driver crashing the vehicle.

The driver was identified as 49-year-old Tony Chaney of Eau Claire. Chaney is being held in the Jefferson County jail.
