Man arrested in high-speed chase in Wood Co.

A man was arrested Saturday night after fleeing from police at high speed through Wood County.

The Wood Co. Sheriff's Dept. said 47-year-old Christopher Ostrum of Wisconsin Rapids was arrested for felony fleeing and operating while intoxicated. The Wisconsin Rapids Police Dept. also recommends charges of felony fleeing against Ostrum.

Deputies say the chase began when a police officer tried to pull the driver over for a traffic stop. Ostrum failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed westbound on W. Grand Ave. He then continued to flee west on State Hwy 73/80. Officers terminated their pursuit when they got the vehicle's license plat. They were concerned by the driver's safety.

Pittsville Police were called to help in locating the fleeing vehicle. Officers located Ostrum at 11:30 p.m. at State Hwy 73 and Oak Road. Ostrum again failed to stop for the officer and sped off at speeds of 95 to 100 mph.

Wood Co. deputies say they were able to spike the vehicle's tires at State Hwy 80 and County Hwy EE. The pursuit ended just south of Marshfield. No one was injured and no property was damaged.
