NEW INFORMATION: Man dies in logging accident in Monroe Co.

MONROE COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU)-- We now know the name of the man killed in a logging accident in Monroe County Saturday.

Monroe County Sheriff, Peter Quirin, says he is 36-year-old Jason Connor, who is from Muscoda, WI.

The sheriff says Connor and another man were hired to cut down some trees in the Town of Lafayette, northeast of Sparta. The second worker found Connor lying next to a tree with his saw still running.

Sheriff Quirin says it appears Connor was cutting down a tree when a large branch hit him in the head.

Connor was wearing a safety helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

TOWN OF LAFAYETTE, Wis. (AP) -- The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man in a logging accident in southwestern Wisconsin.

A statement from the sheriff's office says it happened in the Town of Lafayette before 1 p.m. Saturday. Emergency responders arrived to find a 36-year-old man dead from being hit by a tree.

His name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
