BARRON COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) - A Barron County man will serve prison time after he pleaded guilty to beating his wife to the point where she suffered brain damage.

Tuesday, in court a judge sentenced Troy Birkenmeier, 28, to 10 years in prison with credit for 491 days he already served. Investigators say he slammed his wife's head into the floor at his home in new auburn in June.

His wife had to be flown to a hospital in Eau Claire and documents say medical tests show she suffered brain damage in the attack.
