LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Crews rescued a man who fell nearly 70 feet off a bluff Friday afternoon.
It happened near Rim of the City Road in La Crosse. Firefighters say the man was with other people on the bluff, and the others called for help after he fell. The La Crosse Fire Department's technical rescue team was training on Grandad bluff when the call came in. Crews responded, found the man, and treated him. They ended up lowering him down the side of the bluff in a basket. He was taken to the hospital. Rescuers reported one minor injury after what they call "another very labor intensive rescue."

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday near Rim of the City Road. The man was there with other people, who called for help right after he fell. Captain Dan Skiles with the La Crosse Fire Department says the department's Technical Rescue Team had been training at Grandad Bluff, which is less than a mile away, when the call came in. They were able to respond in about three minutes. It took crews about 10 minutes to find the man. Crews lowered him in a basket to Highway 16. He ended up there just after 3 p.m.
The man could be seen being taken away from the scene in an ambulance. There's no word on his condition. Skiles was also not sure what the man was doing on the bluff before the call came in.
