NEW INFORMATION: Man accused of beating his wife unconscious bound over for trial

(WEAU) - A Barron County man is headed to trial for allegedly beating his wife unconscious.

During a preliminary hearing Thursday, Troy Birkenmeier, 27, was bound over for trial. He's charged with attempted homicide after investigators say he slammed his wife's head into the floor early Sunday morning at his home in New Auburn.

Stacy was flown to a hospital in Eau Claire and documents say medical tests show she now has brain damage.

BARRON, Wis. (WEAU) - The man accused of beating his wife unconscious is now charged.

According to the criminal complaint, Troy Birkenmeier, 27, faces two counts including attempted first degree intentional homicide. The complaint says Birkenmeier beat his wife, Stacy, late Saturday night while her children were at the home in New Auburn.

When Stacy stopped breathing, Troy called 911 and told them she had hit her head on the door.

Stacy was flown to a hospital in Eau Claire. Medical tests show she has brain damage.

BARRON, Wis. (WEAU) - A New Auburn man is in jail after deputies say he beat his wife until she was unconscious.

Deputies say early Sunday morning, Troy Birkenmeier, 27, called the department to report that his wife was unconscious. While deputies were on the way to the home, they got a call from the neighbor who said an 11 year old girl was at the house and told them her dad beat up her mom.

Stacy Birkenmeier was taken to Bloomer Hospital and then flown to Eau Claire where she is in critical condition.

Troy is being held in the Barron County Jail.
