Man sentenced to 5 years in car crash death

WHITEHALL, Wis. (AP) -- A Galesville man has been sentenced to seven years behind bars for a bar fight and a drunken driving crash that killed his brother.

31-year-old James Pederson will serve the time at the end of an earlier three-year sentence for armed robbery.

Court records say Pederson and his 19-year-old brother, Dillon, got in a fight at Tom's Bar in Galesville on Nov. 28 and beat two men. James got behind the wheel and the two fled.

Their car crashed in the town of Trempealeau. A sheriff's deputy who responded to the crash says he found James cradling his brother in the passenger seat of the heavily damaged car. Dillon was pronounced dead at the scene. Pederson told the judge Tuesday the fatal crash will haunt him for the rest of his life.
