(WEAU) - Mathletes from 15 different middle schools across northwestern Wisconsin spent the day matching wits at South Middle School in Eau Claire.
It was during the MATHCOUNTS Competition. During the competition, the students take part in a variety of individual and team tests, and the best teams all have a shot at moving on to the state competition in Madison.
Organizers say the students who take part in these competitions are among the best of the best at their subject. Organizer Brad Volker say "You take those students who advance to Madison and go and watch that competition, and you see the top 10 or 20 compete on that day, and that’s phenomenal, watching those students compete."
Approximately 160 mathletes took part in Thursday's competition.
