EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- There is a big honor coming up for local ski jumper, Dan Mattoon.

On Saturday, Mattoon will be inducted into the American Ski Jumping Hall of Fame in Red Wing, Minnesota. Mattoon told us he is excited and never expected to receive such an honor.

He says the sport has been in Eau Claire for almost 130 years. He points to the recent sale of the Silvermine Hill to the Eau Claire Ski Club as something that will get a bigger buzz going about ski jumping.

"Now we can hopefully get out there and try and find more investors that will help us even make this sport bigger here in town. We have some more plans to do some more remodeling to the hill and also building a facility down below the hill so we can have a heating/warming area for the people and spectators to come and athletes as well," said Mattoon.

The city sold the land to the Ski Club for $1.
