EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Kids from Meadowview Elementary had a chance to serve people at the Community Table.
The 5th graders have been learning about international, national and local hunger and they wanted to help in some way.
So on Thursday, they went to eh Community Table in Eau Claire and cooked and served a meal.
They’ll continue to volunteer throughout the month of April.
A couple of students told us they simply wanted to give back to their community.
“I think this is important because we're helping people who don't have all of their needs and otherwise if they did have it, they wouldn’t be healthy,” said Marcus Shoot.
“We want to help the hungry and we’ve been doing a nutrition unit in science lately so we wanted to help,” said Arianna Wootan.
Besides cooking and serving, the kids are also responsible for raising $100 for each day serve with a total of $800.
They’re raising money at their Kids’ Bazaar on April 11th at Meadowview’s school dance, selling handmade jewelry, artwork, baked goods, and other items.
All Meadowview students also donated money on a designated Popcorn Day raising $131.
