Meals on Wheels Program needs volunteers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis (WEAU)-- One of the simple joys in life is getting a home cooked meal. But there are a number of people who are unable to cook for themselves and rely on the kindness of others to make sure food gets on their table.

The Meals on Wheels program through Eau Claire County delivers food to hundreds of elderly and disabled people across the county.

Richard and Sarah Bauer have been delivering meals on wheels dinners for 5 years.

“They are glad to see you," said Richard Bauer.

Many of our participants don't have family in the area and are home bound and don't have the social aspect of everyday life so having the volunteers visit them, check on them and learn a little about their life is nice," said Volunteer Coordinator Kaylynn Stahlbusch.

Meals on Wheels runs 27 delivery routes a day and servers hundreds of people. Volunteer Coordinator Stahlbusch says new requests are always coming in.

"If we can, we like to have the same volunteers on the same routes,” said Stahlbusch

The Bauer’s say they deliver 5 or more meals twice a week for the Eau Claire county Meals on Wheels Program.

“I like having them come in and chat. It's just nice to know that I have meals I have something to eat.
