Medical mission trip to Haiti for safety reasons

(WEAU) - A medical mission trip that was planned to Haiti has been cancelled.

Marshfield Clinic volunteers had planned to travel to Haiti again this year. The clinic says it's cancelling the trip because of unforeseen circumstances that arose in recent days including safety concerns linked to recent kidnappings, killings and unrest.

An organizer says the team got together Sunday and decided they weren't comfortable going. Foreign Travel Nurse Kathy Kivlin told us "the world is a scary place right now for Americans in some parts of the world so people just did not feel safe. So we talked about just aborting this particular mission with the idea that in a year we will go back."

The clinic said a record number of employees, including seven doctors, were to take part in this year's trip.
