EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- People will soon find out the latest design options for an Eau Claire bridge that will be replaced in the next several years.
On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation scheduled a meeting for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25 in Room 160 of the Haas Fine Arts Center at UW-Eau Claire. The agency will discuss plans to replace the Water Street Bridge in Eau Claire. The bridge was built in 1947, and the department says it's "nearing the end of its useful service life." Plans for the project call for modified traffic signals, decorative street lighting, and a wider bridge that will accommodate bicycles and pedestrians.
Final plans for the project are expected in the fall of next year. Construction would start in the fall of 2015. It will likely take two construction seasons to finish.
