Buck says Mega Foods also intends to lease a new grocery store. It is planned for a property the intersection of I-94 and State Highway 93. Buck says his best guess is that the company is a few years away from opening that store.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - An area grocery chain says it has worked a deal to lease its retail store on the west side of Eau Claire.
Mike Buck of Mega Foods says the company has reached an agreement to lease Mega Foods West on N. Clairemont Avenue for what could be 40 years. Mega Foods had owned that building. Buck declined to comment on who bought the building, or on any other terms of the deal. The transaction closed on August 9. The deal had been in the works for more than two-and-a-half years. Buck says the company is planning to do some painting at Mega Foods West, and make investments as a result of this deal that will make the shopping experience progressively better. He did not elaborate.
Buck says the move is more cost-effective for the company in some ways, and it fits better with its long-term strategy to invest in people, products, and equipment. He says the company also leases Mega Foods East on S. Hastings Way in Eau Claire, and leases most of its convenience stores.
