WAUSAU, Wis. (WEAU) -- A purple bench in Central Wisconsin honors the memory of a former UW-Eau Claire student who was murdered in February.
The sister of Kira Trevino Steger says she hopes the bench at The Womens Community in Wausau encourages other women who are in dangerous relationships to speak up. It was dedicated this week. Steger's sister says it's now her personal mission to help others who struggle with domestic abuse.
"I will do everything I can in this world to make sure to help others who are in a situation similar to what my sister was," said Keri Anne Steger.
Steger's husband, Jeffery Trevino, was convicted of Second Degree Murder in the death of his wife on October 2. His sentencing is scheduled for the end of November. Kira Trevino Steger's funeral is Saturday.
