Memorial bench replaced following vandalism

LAKE WISSOTA, Wis. (WEAU)- Less than one year after a memorial bench on Ray's Beach is vandalized a local family has a new way to remember a loved one.

Last August, a memorial bench for Martin Grorud was vandalized at Ray’s Beach on Lake Wissota.

Now, thanks to the support of the community and an anonymous donor a new granite bench stands where the old one used to.

On June 8, 2002, Grorud's body was found at Lake Wissota after he fell out of a boat when the operator let off the throttle.

Family members told us today they are thankful for all of the support to get the bench back on Ray's Beach.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department says a juvenile suspect was identified in the vandalism case. The male suspect was referred to juvenile court.
