Memorial loses state boys hockey quarterfinal to Notre Dame

MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) -- Memorial's road to another state hockey championship is over.

On Thursday afternoon, Green Bay Notre Dame (27-1) shut out the Old Abes 7-0 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. Collin Appleton and Sam McCormick scored two goals each for Notre Dame. Nick Schreiter had 22 saves for Memorial (23-5-1), before he was relieved by Alex Geving. He made two stops. Memorial won the WIAA Championship in boys hockey in 2008 and last year.

Verona (24-2-2) beat Superior (14-12-1) 3-0 in the earlier state quarterfinal game. Notre Dame plays Verona on Friday night in the semifinals.
