Friends and family were saying good bye to one of the teens killed in a crash Tuesday night.

A memorial service was held for 14-year-old Austin Gable in Osseo Friday evening. The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department says he was driving the car when it crashed.

Family members say they're trying to remember some of the good memories and say it's still not easy to know they won't be hearing any of Austin's jokes.

“He loved the snow so I think he played a little joke. He liked to do that and I think this was his way of smiling down on us," says Jerry Carpenter, Austin’s Grandfather.

He says the teenager's jokes and smile will be missed by many. The family held a memorial service at the Osseo Community Church in Osseo.

"I don't know if we'll ever heal to be honest. I don't know if the community will heal we have other families hurting too. My prayers go out to them and I think about them all day too," says Carpenter.

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what happened Tuesday night on Walnut Road just south of Eau Claire. The sheriff's department says speed and Austin being an inexperienced driver we're factors. The family says it was a mistake they wish was never made but are thankful for all of the support they've received this week.

"I don't think any of the families could get a grip on this and deal with this if it wasn't for the support of the community and the school. I just can't say enough we love them and thank them," says Carpenter.

He says he hasn't talked to the other families yet but is planning on attending the other services to grieve with them.

"Hopefully we can meet with the other parents and tell them how sorry we are and see if there's anything we can do for them," says Carpenter.

He says with Christmas this weekend it will be hard but he says the family is banding together and supporting each other to get through the holidays.
