Milwaukee police say a 3-year-old boy shot and wounded himself with a handgun.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee police say a 3-year-old boy shot and wounded himself with a handgun.

The shooting happened Saturday afternoon. The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A WTMJ-TV report (http://bit.ly/1s7mPio ) says the boy was playing outside when he climbed into his mother's car and found her gun in the glove compartment.

His condition wasn't immediately available Sunday.

Police say no one is in custody.
