ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A state senator pushing to undo Minnesota's restrictions on Sunday liquor store sales has claimed an incremental victory while acknowledging he probably won't get his full wish this year.

Democratic Sen. Roger Reinert of Duluth didn't force a Commerce Committee vote Wednesday on a full repeal of the Sunday sales ban, realizing he lacked the needed support. So instead he got preliminary backing of what he called two "baby-step bills" that loosen the law slightly.

The committee kept alive one proposal legalizing Sunday sales by small brewers. They also approved another bill that would open taprooms on Sundays and allow the sale of beer containers called "growlers" and 750-mililiter bottles.

Both are now likely to be included in bigger liquor policy bill that will emerge later this session.
