ELLSWORTH, Wis. (WEAU) -- A Lake City, Minnesota man died when two cars collided on a snow-covered highway Tuesday night.

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 63 near 220th Avenue, which is south of Ellsworth. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department says Joseph Lemieux, 51, was driving north on highway 63 when he lost control. His car slammed into another car that was going south on highway 63. The driver of that car, Jeremy Freeland, 35, of Spring Valley, was hurt and went to the hospital. There's no word on the extent of his injuries. Lemieux was pronounced dead at the scene.

A stretch of the highway was closed for several hours. Deputies say the crash appears to be weather-related, and that it was snowing heavily when it happened.
