Missing kayaker found uninjured after search

ALMA, Wis. (WEAU) – A kayaker who had been missing for hours was found safe at a home after deputies responded.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department says Rebecca Labs, 34, of Apple Valley, MN was cold and tired when she arrived at the home north of Alma, but was not hurt.

Labs had been kayaking in the Indian Slough of the Mississippi River, which is near Nelson, on Monday. She was reported missing just before 9:30 p.m. Deputies responded, found the she had been missing for nearly two-and-a-half hours, and started searching along with fire crews and the Department of Natural Resources. She got to the home near the Cedar Ridge Resort, which is several miles from where she started from, around 11 p.m. Monday.

She was taken back to a boat landing, where she had a friend waiting for her.
