DOVER, N.H. (AP) -- A New Hampshire man who raped and killed a college student has been sentenced to life in prison after the victim's family tearfully and angrily lamented what he took from them.

A judge handed down the maximum sentence to 31-year-old Seth Mazzaglia on Thursday for the Oct. 9, 2012, killing of 19-year-old Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott of Westborough, Massachusetts.

In court, Mazzaglia denied raping and killing Marriott but said he helped cover up her murder.

Mazzaglia was convicted in June of first-degree murder and other charges. The key witness, Kathryn McDonough, testified that she lured Marriott to Mazzaglia's apartment as a sexual offering for her domineering boyfriend.

McDonough, who is also serving jail time, testified that Mazzaglia strangled Marriott after she twice rejected his sexual advances.

DOVER, N.H. (AP) -- The mother of a slain college student told her daughter's killer that she "unequivocally" hates him.

Melissa Marriott addressed 31-year-old Seth Mazzaglia, of Dover, New Hampshire, before he was sentenced to life in prison for killing and raping Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott, of Westborough, Massachusetts, on Oct. 9, 2012, after she rejected his sexual advances.

Melissa Marriott called Mazzaglia a coward and a despicable person who stole her daughter because she stood up to him.

Other family members are expected to speak before Mazzaglia is sentenced. His ex-girlfriend, Kathryn McDonough, is already serving 1 1/2 to 3 years in prison for hindering prosecution.

After Mazzaglia strangled and raped Marriott in his apartment, he and McDonough threw her body in a river. It has never been found.
